Editor’s note: The power of the Logi 8 platform has attracted a growing roster of software application vendors who are incorporating LogiXML’s Web- based Business Intelligence features into their offerings. In fact, the company’s OEM business is performing at a record rate. The Logical View asked, Ben Mathew, LogiXML Partner Development Manager, to share his view on what is driving this remarkable growth. |

Logical View : LogiXML OEM sales are growing dramatically. What elements of the Logi 8 offering are so attractive to application software vendors?
Ben Mathew : We’ve seen a sharp upward trend in our OEM business over the past few quarters. More and more software vendors out there realize the value of having a robust and reliable BI and reporting interface to their products, but don’t want to spend millions of dollars to get it. Fortunately, LogiXML offers cost-effective, easy-to-integrate but functionally complete and feature-full BI and reporting solutions.
Many aspects of the Logi 8 product line appeal to OEM Partners. Technically, the fact that Logi 8 is based on the LogiXML elemental development discipline means that our partners’ development teams can increase productivity by learning and mastering the product quickly so they can deliver results at a faster pace. This is a critical issue for organizations working under “time to market” pressure.
Flexibility is also a key differentiator. OEM partners do not want to be restricted in their choice of a data source, so the fact that Logi 8 is data neutral and works on virtually all databases such as Oracle, MS SQL Server, MySQL, Cache and works with XML Web Services as a data source, is a major plus.
Efficient and cost-effective distribution on the client-side also separates our offering from the competition. The fact that Logi 8 is pure Web-based and that our reports work with all standard browsers on all platforms including Windows, Linux and OS X makes us a winner.
LogiXML also believes that our customers and partners should be able to build and integrate Business Intelligence solutions themselves as opposed to some other traditional vendors whose products require complex integration and expensive consulting services. While the option of assistance from LogiXML and our certified partner network is available, it is not required by any means.

How does Logi 8 compare functionally to the competition in the eyes of OEM
prospects?
Ben Mathew : Logi 8 provides the rich Business Intelligence reporting and analysis features companies want to add to their applications. OEM Partners agree with our view that LogiXML offers the most comprehensive feature-set among BI vendors in the market.
They like the fact that they can add as much functionality as they want, as fast as they want. They expect all the standard reporting functionalities. The fact that Logi 8 offers features like AJAX-based Web 2.0 style dashboards, the Interactive Data Viewer for “What-If” analysis, Analysis Grid, OLAP Grid, AJAX-based GIS mapping, animated charts and gauges, and Heat Maps means that there is virtually no limit to what they can do.
Also, the fact that we can integrate with popular desktop tools with our Excel-based reporting, Word-based reporting and PDF-based Reporting means partners can give their users exactly what they want in the way they format reports.

“Easy-to-integrate Ad Hoc Reporting and dynamic Dashboarding add value to applications.”
LV:
What do OEM Partners see as the key technical benefits of Logi 8 when working with their application?
Ben Mathew: They like the fact that Logi 8 is light and fast. The fact that the Logi server is designed, built and optimized for the Web platform makes the core engine faster than other competitors such as Business Objects, Cognos, Microstrategy and Microsoft.
Plus, the fact that Logi 8 is a complete BI solution that includes managed reporting for developers, ad hoc reporting for non-technical users and OLAP reporting plus an “easy mart” solution mean they can grow with the platform. Partners like the fact that all of these tools use the same security model, XML technology, license model and underlying core engine that drives all our products. They know that they will spend less time fitting everything together to work in a consistent fashion. Moreover, because we use Cascading Style Sheets, reports are not locked into a standard look-and-feel, so colors and logos can easily be switched around to make the LogiXML application look like our customers' applications.
Our partners also love the fact that integrating our application with theirs is extremely simple, quick and seamless. Also, deploying BI to their end customers is hassle-free with a silent install with their application and single sign-on working with their existing security models.
They also like our approach of delivering three major upgrades per year. LogiXML has tripled product functionality over the last two years and will continue to aggressively add to the platform. For example, Harmony (see feature story) finds our graphical interface an excellent match with their human services application. It lets their users analyze this or quantify that at the touch of a button.

What are the financial benefits to OEM Partners when they choose to do business with LogiXML?
Ben Mathew: The first benefit is that when LogiXML partners with its OEM customers, we take the commitment very seriously by working closely with them to make sure we satisfy their current and future needs.
All our OEM partners also sign up because they see the potential to make a profit off their investment with LogiXML’s solutions. With our attractive OEM packages, our partners are able to quickly cover the invested amount in a very short period of time and reap profits by selling a customized BI portal as an add-on to their applications.
Another factor is that LogiXML is very easy to work with on financial matters. We are an open and transparent company, not only in our approach to technology, but also in our business practices. We take an open and transparent approach that our partners appreciate.
Unlike some vendors who are unwilling to share their price list with customers and partners, LogiXML has published all our pricing online. This includes our OEM pricing – a step even some “open source” companies fail to take. The fully functional trial version of our software is also available for software application vendors to download and try at no charge virtually eliminating risk.
The bottom line is that LogiXML’s pricing and licensing structure for OEM Partners is unbeatable. Period.
