Normalization |
The process of eliminating duplicated data from a relational database and storing related pieces of data together instead of storing the same data repeatedly. For example, instead of having to store customer contact info (such as name, address, and phone) in a product data table with each product record, you can just associate the product with a customer ID, which relates to a customer ID table that includes all contact information by customer ID. |
OLAP |
Short for Online Analytical Processing. Technology approach that enables fast analysis of shared, multi-dimensional data. Databases configured for OLAP employ a multidimensional data model, which is optimized for complex analytical and ad-hoc queries by using the concept of a 'cube,' pre-calculated data dimensions. For example, it would allow a user to ask questions like "How many computers have been sold in Canada this year?", "Of those sold in Canada, how many were sold to people over 50?", etc. |
OLAP Cube |
OLAP compiles a set of source data and restructures it into an OLAP cube, which is optimized for analysis. A cube represents pre-calculated dimensions of data available to a user, which, in turn, enables the faster processing. Queries are then run against the cubes. |
OlapGrid |
The Logi Reporting element that enables UI functionality for selecting dimensions, drilling down, and so on. from an OLAP data source. |
OlapTable |
The Logi Reporting element that provides basic functionality to display information from an OLAP data source. |
