Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Center Uses Logi 8 to Track and Analyze
Data to Support Lifesaving Mission
About Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Center
Many
driven organizations imagine themselves in a daily life and death struggle
to succeed against a myriad of unpredictable forces. At the Rocky Mountain
Poison and Drug Center (RMPDC) no imagination is needed. True life and
death issues face their team everyday. The organization’s mission
is to reduce injury and death by providing knowledge and caring expertise
in the treatment of poisonings and drug interactions.
The RMPDC is a certified regional poison center recognized by the American
Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC) and also serves as a regional
drug information center. The Center has provided poison and drug information
services for over 50 years to medical professionals and consumers in Colorado
and surrounding states.
Their mission is to build a high-quality caring organization of specialized
professionals emphasizing open communications and professionalism and to
conduct leading edge research for the prevention and treatment of poisonings.
To achieve this objective, the Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Center is
committed to communicating the importance and value of its service to the
community. The organization is very forward thinking in its operations,
constantly exploring opportunities for strategic alliances with government,
industry and private sources for ongoing funding of operations and activities.
The RMPDC is also committed to advanced technology—developing effective
telecommunications and information technology systems to ensure availability
and to deliver dependable treatment recommendations. Their reporting and
analysis system built on the LogiXML BI platform has help them make important
strides toward that goal.
The Challenge
The center needed a seamless BI solution that would help them coordinate
the many important—and often life-saving—functions performed
every day. This high level of telecommunication and system coordination
is needed because, while the RMPDC is an agency of the Denver Health and
Hospital
Authority, it is comprised of three specialized call centers and two support
departments. Rocky Mountain Poison Center is committed to poisoning treatment
and poison prevention in a responsive, caring, and cost-effective manner.
The Rocky Mountain Drug Consultation Center provides health and safety
information to the public, medical professionals and contract clients on
the safe and effective use of medications. The Denver Health Nurse Line
was established in 1997 to provide 24-hour information to the public and
contract clients to perform medical triage for health concerns and recommendations
for further medical evaluation and treatment as appropriate.
The organization also conducts research in the treatment of poisoning
and providing toxicological consultative services for clients and work
with physicians and pharmaceutical companies on medical toxicology issues.
The Solution
“The LogiXML platform is critical to our IT operation,” notes
David Daley, IS Manager for Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Center. “I
have about 13 different production sites running that have a huge need
for reports and analysis. Using the Logi platform with a range of visualization
options and an outstanding development environment helps me keep up with
the demand.”

“The Poison Center’s Medical Director pointed me to LogiXML
after seeing it at another organization. Initially I was skeptical, as
I am about almost any new technology. But the capability of the Logi technology
is one of the biggest IT advances I have seen in a decade.”
“The needs of our users is my top priority, so I appreciate the
ability to present information graphically as a dashboard communicating
multiple reports or a heat map showing the relationships of key data points.
We also have developed Analysis Grids for users to manipulate data within
the reports themselves.”
The Results
“We are also using the platform for surveillance of dangerous products
and adverse drug reactions. If a dangerous product exposure occurs, a scheduled
task will pick up on it and automatically notify a group via email. We
can track adverse reactions, drug interactions, and drug use in pregnancy
and lactation. We work with pharmaceutical companies in clinical trial
situations. We can use the Logi security features to build this functionality
right in the reports.”
“One major initiative going on currently is a redevelopment of the
data collection software in one of our call centers. Logi Info is playing
a key role as a service for reporting, notification and transmission.”
