OnDemand Inspections Uses Logi 8 to Revolutionize the Fire and Safety
Inspection Process
About OnDemand Inspections
Florida-based OnDemand Inspections (ODI) offer a comprehensive
software solution that collects fire and safety data for inspections. The
ODI Systems provide the capability to conduct inspections in a uniform
manner, while instantly creating work orders for approval and loading the
data directly to a server that can be viewed by city and state officials.
Most county governments are still conducting these inspections on paper
and sending the results to the proper channels via the postal service.
This process can take weeks and valuable hours to complete.
By bringing together outstanding development technologies, ODI offered
a true OnDemand offering to this community. This comprehensive paperless
inspection solution was made available as an OnDemand hosted service putting
it within the reach of virtually any organization that needs to submit
fire and safety inspection documents. Moving to a paperless inspection
system is no longer an "all or nothing" decision. By taking advantage
of the various levels of functionality offered at a different price points,
this system can now be utilized by even the most budget constrained organizations.
The Osceola School District in Florida is one organization that has successfully
adopted this innovative approach to school safety inspections. This efficiency
is accomplished by combining a Web enabled application with mobile handheld
devices. Inspection data is captured at the Point of Inspection (POI) and
transferred to the server by synchronizing the handheld via the desktop
cradle. The handheld will be able to connect directly to the internet facilities
with wireless networking capability.
The Challenge
According to OnDemand Inspections CEO Daniel Tharp, “We needed a
powerful BI reporting platform that was standards-based and delivered reports
that could be formatted to the exact legal specification of government
agencies responsible for inspections.”
“
Also, our software is helping organizations add efficiency and effectiveness
to performing safety inspections by converting manual paper driven processes
to electronic data flows. But we operate in a dynamic environment where
codes are changing and we need to adapt very quickly.”
The Solution
ODI turned to LogiXML for an answer to their needs. On one hand, Logi
solutions offered ODI the kind of flexibility they needed to tailor each
report to the specifications of different agencies. “The Logi 8 platform
offered us an outstanding level of functionality for creating reports and
creating precisely formatted documents that met strict specifications from
submission,” adds Tharp.
On the other hand, Logi offered ODI the possibility to adapt to different
codes. “The development platform that LogiXML provides in Logi Studio
is perfect for our development team. The elemental design approach means
that we can re-use standard elements over and over and yet add new elements
that make the output unique for our customers,” says Tharp.
“The fact that Logi 8 software is Web-based and standards-based
was critical for our software as a service model adopting the SaaS approach
meant ODI could have significantly reduced the Total Cost of Ownership
(TCO) normally associated with this type of solution. Implementation time
is drastically reduced if not eliminated. There is no longer a need for
our customers to purchase new hardware or software. Using the paperless
inspection system running on the OnDemandInspections.com platform means
customers have access anytime and anywhere.”

The Results
“Using OnDemand Inspections, built with the LogiXML Logi 8 platform,
customers perform a range of reporting tasks based on site defined access
security levels. They can view online inspection data for their facilities
and print inspection summaries. They can also export inspection data to
common file formats such as Adobe PDF and Microsoft Excel and submit inspection
information to regulatory agencies electronically by file export or via
a standard printed report. Generating management summary reports detailing
inspection activities is another key benefit of the systems.”
“
The Logi team has helped us every step of the way and the fact that LogiXML
keeps pushing out new functionality without having to wait for a major
release means that we can take advantage of as much innovation as our talented
team can handle,” concludes Tharp.
