NC Department of Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention Uses Logi Info Lite to Monitor Program Progress and Obtain Critical Program Funding

About the NC Department of Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention

The Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (NC DJJDP) promotes public safety and juvenile delinquency prevention, intervention, and treatment through the operation of a comprehensive juvenile justice system.

The Challenge

Over the last four years, the agency has collected thousands of records to track the effectiveness of their juvenile justice system.

Their team determined that the existing reporting systems, a combination of Crystal Reports and an internally developed Web-based system, could no longer support their needs as the volume of records increased dramatically. The challenge that Application Development Manager, David Pozun and Application Analyst Programmer, Joe Davis faced was finding a cost-effective solution
that could help the agency access critical data needed by executives quickly and without over-burdening the server system.

The Solution

"We evaluated numerous products from vendors such as Actuate and Crystal Reports by Business Objects to find a product that was Web-based, easy to use by developers and business analysts and, most importantly, low on cost. That formula led us directly to
LogiXML" explained Joe Davis.

The agency had to work within limited financial resources, so pricing based on the number of processors on production servers instead of the number of users was very attractive.

"LogiXML's pricing model was a good fit because we knew we would be using a lot of 'non-production' servers," added Joe Davis.
Davis and Pozun both explained that they chose LogiXML based on the control, flexibility and the comprehensive features that Logi Info Lite gave them: "We both liked the ability to incorporate charts and graphs in all the reports. That was important to satisfy the needs of our users. We can now build reports the way our users request them and generate the reports much faster," stated Pozun.

Because LogiXML's technology is based on the latest open industry standards like XML and HTML, the Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention found LogiXML's reporting solutions easily configurable, deployable, and cross-platform compatible. Since all LogiXML products are optimized for the Web, the reporting engine is very light and fast. "In addition to costs," explained Davis, "one thing that I liked over Crystal Reports and some of the other tools, was that we would be able to handle a robust number of users and remain light on the servers."

The Results

Using Logi Info Lite, the NC DJJDP has given their executives the ability to monitor the progress of their juvenile justice system and obtain critical program funding.

Currently, the Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention has adopted Logi Info Lite as their Web-based reporting standard. Pozun explained that Logi Info Lite has given executives the ability to monitor the progress of their juvenile justice system and obtain critical program funding.

"Executive managers use reports from Logi Info Lite showing statistics of interest from our juvenile justice system as a means to obtain funding from the state legislature. In the future, we hope to use Logi Report Plus to provide trend reports to measure how effective juvenile delinquency prevention, intervention, and treatment at the state and community levels affect juvenile crime rates."

Cost-Effective Solution

LogiXML's flexible, server-based pricing for unlimited users is becoming the preferred pricing model of state and local agencies. The ability for an endless amount of users to access information is critical to accountability driven agencies such as the Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.

Information for Anyone at Anytime Anywhere

LogiXML reporting products leverage the power of the Web, giving agency employees the ability to access critical data and reports anytime and anywhere.

Employees can use Logi Info Lite to track program effectiveness, financial performance and operational efficiency. For instance, the Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention now creates dashboards for executives so that they can monitor, measure and share key performance data regarding the number of juveniles on probation, new cases and recommitments at any given time.

According to Pozun, giving executives and other agency users the ability to access information themselves was critical to the department's limited IT staff.

Cost Savings with a Solution that Is Easy to Configure and Deploy

All of LogiXML's reporting products are built on a consistent unified platform, which saves government agencies administrative costs
associated with upgrades. Agencies such as the Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention can deploy and upgrade the system in a matter of minutes.

Simple Upgrades = Choosing the Product You Need, When You Need It

Government agencies have a choice with LogiXML to select the product that meets their needs at the present time and as those needs grow and change can quickly upgrade to more advanced products. For example, the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention purchased Logi Info Lite and is planning to upgrade to Logi Info as their needs evolve and they require greater reporting sophistication. And, they can continue to use the same reports they have already created with Logi Info Lite when they do upgrade.
