Ferring Research, Inc. Uses Logi Info to Organize Technical Data from Various Bio-Tech Disciplines to Deliver Effective Reports Quickly via Centralized, Web-based Portal

About Ferring Research Institure, Inc.

Ferring Research Institute, Inc. located in La Jolla, California creates a wealth of valuable data as its scientists discover chemical compounds and biological materials that are used in the development of new pharmaceuticals. The Institute is the United States-based discovery branch of the international Ferring Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Founded in 1996, FRI consists of a fully integrated target and drug discovery unit, pursuing research in important areas of unmet medical need.

The Challenge

FRI research operations Technology Platforms -- in cutting edge In vitro Pharmacology, In vivo Pharmacology and Chemistry -- incorporate a wide range of disciplines and technologies such as computational sciences, genomics, molecular biology, molecular imaging, high-throughput screening (HTS) and medicinal and combinatorial chemistry.

The FRI Discovery Informatics team was faced with the challenge of organizing the data generated by this research and making it available via a portal that all members of the research team can use.

The Solution

Logi Info's Web-based approach fit the bill.

"We needed a way to build reports quickly and yet maintain a consistency in the look and feel of the reports so our researchers could focus their attention on the data and results rather than the visual format of the report," said Rob Meadows, Director of Discovery Informatics at FRI. "The modular structure of the LogiXML product helps us enforce the consistency of the data presentation while at the same time makes it easier to respond to requests for new reports."

The Results

FRI employs over 50 highly qualified scientists from all around the world, representing more than a dozen different countries, languages and cultures. As different as the background of the team may be, they are all able to share information in reports developed using the Logi Info reporting product from LogiXML, Inc.

"FRI is a successful and growing operation but we are always attentive to cost constraints. We need to work with vendors who are responsive to our needs and help us meet our challenges. We looked at many alternatives but LogiXML delivers a high level of value to our Institute. LogiXML continues to add value with every release of Logi Info. We still have not yet incorporated many of the new capabilities into our reports. And the LogiXML support team is always there when we need them," added Meadows.
