About DataVisibility
The goal of delivering compelling visual representations of data to their
government, local government, and education organization clients who are
involved in complex capital management projects has been central to the
mission of London-based DataVisibility. Taking that core mission to the
Web-based Business Intelligence era led to a very productive partner relationship
with LogiXML.
Founded in 2006 with a vision to provide software tools that collected,
processed and managed data in such a way that the information contained
within was made visible and accessible to the users, DataVisibility set
an ambitious objective for their business. The resulting cornerstone of
this vision is Imprest® , a Capital Programme Management system.
With a focus primarily in the local government and education sectors,
DataVisibility has experienced much success through the sophistication
and scalability of the Imprest suite of solutions. By helping them to achieve
improved monitoring and tighter control of projects Imprest software has
brought significant strategic and financial benefits to a number of universities
including Cranfield, Imperial College and King’s College London.
It is also being deployed to manage the Local Transport Plan for the West
Midlands, and has been used within and across groups of Authorities to
consolidate portfolio management and reporting. Additionally, DataVisibility
works with large RSLs – Registered Social Landlords, often referred
to as housing associations.
The sophisticated security capabilities ensure that information is available
only to those individuals, groups and Departments who have been granted
access to it.
The Challenge
As DataVisibility grew, and their relationships with their clients did
too, they “learned to appreciate their clients’ need for more
than just a one-dimensional report, but for the ability to mine information,
as well,” says Grant Ingram, Managing Director of DataVisibility.
Through a concentrated search for reporting and analysis solutions, DataVisibility
found LogiXML on the web and downloaded the free trial. “We sought
to find a reporting solution that we could actually integrate with Imprest.
Crystal Reports would have been complicated and it would have compromised
our database independence. With Logi we found a product that met all of
our technical requirements.”

According to Richard Black, Senior Developer at DataVisibility, "The
thing that first impressed us about LogiXML was that it worked ‘out
of the box’. We tested several competing Business Intelligence tools
and Logi was by far the easiest to get working. In one case a major BI
product failed to install at all."
The Solution
Imprest supports multiple data sources, but most traditional reporting
tools do not. DataVisibility found that with other BI products it would
have been necessary to either provide a variety of custom reporting solutions
based on the data source their clients were using, or remain completely
agnostic to reporting and leave those choices up to their clients. Using
Logi they discovered solutions that precluded them from having to make
either of these unpalatable choices. “Like Logi, Imprest is web-based
so finding a solution that allows continued pricing flexibility, as well
as seamless integration for our clients has been invaluable,” expressed
Ingram.
The Results
Today, DataVisibility is expanding its business as more educational institutions
and governments recognize the value of highly visual program management. “As
we grow our business, we know that LogiXML will continue to incorporate
new BI features into the platform. This commitment to constant improvement
and the complete platform licensing structure of the Logi products allows
us to bid confidently on new business in a competitive business environment,” adds
Ingram. “This is an outstanding partnership.”
