Better Business Bureau Uses Logi Ad Hoc Reporting for Internal Employees and External Customers to Analyze Legacy Reports from the past 85 years via the Web
About the Better Business Bureau
Founded in 1920, the Better Business Bureau, Inc. (BBB),
is a non-profit, public service organization serving Eastern Massachusetts, Maine, and Vermont.
The BBB provides free business Reliability Reports, Charity Reports, and other valuable consumer information to the public. All BBB services are readily available on the Internet at www.bosbbb.org.
The Challenge
With more than 6.7 million people in the BBB’s service area, the BBB accumulated a vast amount of information over the past 85 years. For the past twenty years, the BBB kept this data on an IBM/AS400. The AS400 served its purpose, but the BBB felt it was time to upgrade and move the files to Web and intranet servers.
Though the concept was simple, implementing the move could have been very challenging. The AS400 housed 90,000 company Reliability Reports and more than 50,000 complaints.
The BBB needed a way to easily access, analyze, and research its files both internally (by BBB employees) and externally (by Members, non-Members, and consumers) both in summary and in full detail. And, the solution needed to work with their SQL and .NET data structures.
The Solution
The BBB turned to LogiXML for an effective solution. Easy to install and set up, the Logi Ad Hoc Reporting solution allows users to easily create their reports using a convenient wizard.
Logi Ad Hoc Reporting also makes it easy to set up associations between tables. An example report for the BBB is one that shows all paid members for the month; another report displays all new sales by salesperson, with a summary total and pie chart. The capability of the report to output to a CSV, Excel and PDF was also key in the BBB's product selection.
The Results
Logi Ad Hoc Reporting enabled the BBB to effectively meet the needs of both internal and external users. The BBB can now run reports at will, analyzing and dissecting the data. The BBB is in the early stages of learning how to use and implement the program into its system, but, ultimately, it plans to use the Logi Ad Hoc Report Builder extensively both internally and externally for the public.
